EUROPEAN HEADLINES

BBC Europe – Le Pen and Macron clash over Europe in TV debate. French far-right leader Marine Le Pen was attacked from all sides over Europe as presidential candidates went head to head in the second live TV debate. The centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron said Ms Le Pen’s nationalist proposals amounted to “economic warfare”. But she was also accused from the right of not being tough enough on France’s membership of the EU.

FRANCE

The European Union is concerned about the French presidential election

Officially, the leaders of European institutions do not envisage Ms Le Pen’s victory, nor do they believe in the “Frexit” that could follow.

GERMANY

Syrian misery – global helplessness

Dismay after poison gas attack and bombardment of a hospital. EU and USA see responsibility accountability of Assad regime. Experts doubt that he has exterminated his stocks of chemical weapons.

BULGARIA

Golden Sofia only for pedestrians

A new pedestrian zone of 120 acres will be made in Bulgaria’s capitol Sofia. It will include the areas surrounding the parliament, the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Krystal Garden, and Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd., as well as part of the streets Oborishte and Paris. The zone is called Golden Sofia, as it includes the most significant symbols of the capitol. The project also plans for tiles of polished bronze to be placed.
